British Comedy Guide

Hello Everybody

Teary

Just by way of an introduction, I'm known as Skoob1999. I'm basically a bit of a boring, accident prone git who's worked for way too many hours, for far too long, at a soul destroying job, in order to make ends meet.

I'm happily married, have grown up kids (and even grandkids) but I always had a passion for writing. I once submitted some manuscripts to top London publishers, and came pretty close to hitting the big time, but alas - twas not to be. Good material, bad timing.

I gave up on writing for a while, and just concentrated on the daily grind, but recently the long hours are proving too much, so a couple of years ago I started writing pretty rude, crude, spoof articles on a website, and became quite popular amongst both my peers and the readership alike. It's short, throwaway stuff based on skewing the news, but when I reached three and a half million hits over two years, I reflected, and thought maybe I do have some kind of aptitude for comedy writing.

I looked at this site, and was impressed by the way topics are discussed, and ideas dispensed from those with experience, to those perhaps just starting out.

I have no illusions regarding setting the world alight with my comedic 'genius' but I thought I'd give it one last shot. Some of the threads posted on this site convinced me that taking the time to register and participate wouldn't be such a bad idea.

I live on the South coast, but I was born in Salford and spent most of my schooldays in Burnley - not the most forgiving of environments, but there you go.

In summary, I think that there may be a lot I can learn from the contributors to these forums, and if there's anything I can offer in return - that would be a pleasure.

I'm looking at a radio script for starters - whole different scenario to a novel, something to be learned.

Anyway, that's me - hello, and I look forward to what the future holds. I don't just come here to take out - if I have a sensible contribution to make, I'm only happy to do so.

Just don't bother Googling me - you'll just get hundreds of pages of nonsense.

Thanks for your time
