UK hip hop mockumentary: In The Mix Page 4

The Good: Really liked the premise, has so much potential, the characters were interesting, believeable and very well acted. As an ex leeds uni student it was nice to see some of the old haunting grounds too. You've shot it and produced it fantastically. Well done on getting this out there, it looks great.

The Bad: You didn't make enough of the characters, the scripts were just not tight enough. My favourite episode (job interview with Jester) had some flashes of great moments, but also left a lot of laughs on the table. I thought in general that the scripts touched on a huge amount of material, but only grazed it, which if fully developed, would have been absolutely incredible.

The Ugly: I really didn't like the last episode, the shouting/arguments/fights from the interviewer didn't sit well with me at all as I don't think it sat well with the character. The plot lines were fine, but the execution was shabby, it just didn't work with the rest of the series, it looked like a bit of a rushed close.

My Favourite bit: without doubt Jesters "rap off" with that random bloke, it was a fantastic scene and one which fully showed off the potential of the show - it was brilliant, just brilliant, Jester was acted superbly. The show never really hit that height again for me, but did often come close.

This has so much potential and I did watch every episode, but as has been said above, tighter editing, tighter scripts would benefit it massively. Congratulations on getting such a professional product out there though, it looked consistently TV grade.

First of all, thank you so much for watching and for the helpful feedback. I should tell you that this was the first large scale project that we decided to do together and the process has taught us a lot. Hopefully we will improve on the flaws next time around.
This show was originally cut as a one off doc, under an hour long. After (unsucessfully) pitching it to various television companies we settled on releasing it weekly and trying to generate some interest.
Around this point we encountered our first obstacle. None of us came from an advertising background and even if we did, trying to explain this strange hybrid of a show would be a tall order. So we extended the cuts for each 'episode' which in hindsight was a mistake since we learned the hard way that people have extremely low attention spans online.
In regards to the patchy script, as the main 'writer,' I can see why people would feel the script wasn't fleshed out enough. That's because it wasn't :) We had gags written and the overall arc of every scene in mind but we let the actors just go with it. This probably led to some of my favourite moments.. Strangely though, the job interview scenes were the most scripted. Make of that what you will.
Jester actually does a bit of rapping, maybe you will enjoy this video :)

If you don't mind me asking, you mentioned the script 'grazing' on certain good ideas but not exploiting them fully.. Could you be more specific?
