And the saying grace scene was reminiscent of Meet The Parents (love that film!)...I thought it was an excellent episode. Childlike behaviour? Like a mentally ill child. 
Still too jolly hockey sticks and posh girls school dormitory humour for my liking. Maybe one or two funnies per episode but otherwise getting a little bit too excruciating and predictable
The Series 3 DVD comes out in October 2013.

In all your examples the cretin is not exactly the main/chief character...apart from Rose maybe who is 1/4 of an ensemble. In most sitcoms there is a main character who compensates for the lunacy of the others (Jerry > Kramer, Ted > Dougal)...but in Miranda the half wit is the titular character.
