Sitcoms with new, but similar sounding actors

In the David Mitchell thread there was a mention of Robert Webb. Nothing unusual about that but for some reason I couldn't get Robert Mitchum's image out of my head thanks to an unintential composite of their names.

There is also a David Webb who played for and managed Chelsea but I suspect there will be few here that would remember him. It made me chuckle though thinking of Mitchum and Webb doing Peep Show. :)

This set me thinking about other shows with similar names and wondering what they would be like with different actors. How about The Office with Gervase Phinn in the David Brent role and Morgan Freeman playing Tim Canterbury? The mind boggles.

You all must have some others...

I remember David Webb well with his Desperate Dan jaw. In the days when numbers meant different positions he wore every shirt from 1 - 11. Not at the same time. That included scoring a hat trick as a centre forward and keeping a clean sheet as a goalie. Normally he was a central defender.

A true legend. There will never be another like him.

I get a lot of the coloured actors mixed-up, like Chris Rock and Chris Tucker.

What if Captain Mainwaring had been played by Arthur Mullard and Jonesy by Clive of India?

(Another cracking Tuumble thread to waste our lives on)

Unused to get tucker and rock mixed up when I was about 13, but then I learned the difference because I felt a bit racist.

What if Brian Blessard played George Roper?

It would be fun to see Brian Blessed act with Yootha Joyce in George and Mildred for sure. :)

How about David Jacobs as Del Boy, Nick Leeson as Rodders and Buster Bloodvessel as Uncle Albert? Leonard Cohen or Stuart Pearce could play Grandad.

Bloody hell what a pointless thread! :D

Fawlty Towers with 'It's all my fault.' Nick Clegg as Basil, Michael Portillo as Manuel, Anne Widdecombe as Sybil and (just because I fancy her) Lynn Featherstone as Polly.

OK, you asked . . . .
