Eric & Ernie Page 2

Thumbs up from me.

I thought this wasn't too bad. It was very well-acted and told me lots of things I didn't know about Morecambe and Wise.

Not sure why Mark Gatiss wasn't in it, though. Anyone know?

It came across as if she was saying the drive and comedic ability of Eric's mother eclipsed both himself or Ernie. It would have been one thing if she'd been depicted as encouraging and trying to help and guide her son with what she saw as his true talent. Instead, she comes off like this oracle of comedic & showbiz lore who knows all this with no real explanation as to why.

She could help and guide her son and make him split from Ernie, or tell him to listen to others more, neither are what happened. So you've got to hand it to Mrs Barthelomew that she knew what worked and what didn't.

Why would he be?

Godot has decided Mark Gatiss is in everything.

Oh I get it. Well at least one of the League was in it.

Yep!
And he even did Papa Lazarou.
Kind of.

He must have laughed when he first read the script and it said he had to do that.

Hardly dearie.

I wonder if he turned it down DUE TO OTHER COMMITMENTS?

Who would he have been in it anyway?

I thought this was very good. Brilliantly cast, fantastic performances all round, very well written and beautifully shot.

I don't think the mother character overly dominated the story at all. In fact it was interesting seeing the work and sacrifice put in by an unrecognised woman - a recurring story throughout history. ;)

I really enjoyed it. Not sure what the hints of the double act with the husband was about. Was it suggested that Eric was not his father's son? Odd casting - if that was the idea - of Vic Reeves. Was there a doco too,was ill with the Winter Bug so didn't have control of the Sky plus but would like to have seen that too. The early Wise was excellent and the latter Morecambe in looks mannerisms etc, but great performances all round.
