Racist comedy? The Sordid Squirrel Sunderland Page 3
Hehe.
Performance discussion?
make a "Handbags at Dawn" forum...
I wonder who'd post most in such a forum?
For a bit of closure on the issue, here's a link to a local new comic's blog post about this issue. It's brutal and it's a little bit brilliant.

Also, Lee Kyle is fantastic and will almost definitely make it, so if you happen to see his name on a lineup anywhere, make the effort to see him.
Actually, it's not really closure, it's more of a continuation.
This is almost as amusingly daffy as Norman Cho V Johnny Armstrong (which I only know of via Facebook).
Aren't comedians supposed to be nice to each other.

Er...
I think.
To Peter Smith and Lee Kyle
I have just read your post about Craig I know everybody is entitled to freedom of speach and all that, but I feel that it is bang out of order bringing the comedy club into this its not just Craig's club its mine too, we are both working hard to try and bring a new open mic comedy club to sunderland we are both new at running a club and realise that we both have made mistakes about what comics can and can't say. But I feel that through all these blogs that people will think that the club is all about racist material and that is definitely not the case,
We have now in place rules regarding comics material where there is NO racist material allowed at all, If this happens in the future again the mic will be turned off and the comic will be asked to end their set, I personally feel that for comics to say such negative things about a venue that is only just starting is wrong, because this could jeopardise new comics turning down offers to try out our venue and also the publicity that this is a Racist comedy club when it truly is not. I feel this is unfair as you have directed your critism at Craig but in doing so you have also directed your critism at the comedy club also.
I can appreciate that some mistakes have been made, but there are rules now in place ensuring that this will never happen again and would apprecaiate an end to the negativity that is being directed at our club.

Chris Mitchell
For what it's worth, you shouldn't need rules for the organisers of the night. Clearly Craig feels that stolen racist material is ok to use at a gig, whether he does it anymore or not doesn't matter. I wouldn't go to a gig organised by Jim Davidson even if he promised not to be bigoted.
Unfortunately the night has been tainted by Craig's actions and it will take a lot to undo that in my view. Perhaps you would be more suited taking the night to Sergaent Peppers in Newcastle
Maybe a mod could change the thread title to something a bit less inflammatory. A couple of well-placed inverted commas should do the trick.
I say make it more inflammatory and give it a Daily Mail Make Over
"Racist Squirrel in Sunderland"
I have added a whole question mark.
Not sure if that makes enough of a difference...
But if anyone actually reads the thread, they'll get all the sides of the argument.
