The ice cream van round here is brilliant. It's just a transit van with cartoons painted on it.

Even the Child Catcher had a more tempting vehicle.

When is it rude to not reply to texts from friends? I never know when to reply or not. If there is a question, it is obvious you should reply, but if there is no question should you text back with a ':)' or not?

If it's a question, if it's funny, if it's an instruction, if you agree/disagree, it's a piece of helpful information. If it falls into none of these categories, you don't need to reply.
