It can be 4-7, apparently.
The amount you see squished on the road, I'm not surprised they have a short life span.

Can't wildlife in the UK swim? Surely by now some namby-pamby government agency has been formed (at great expense to the taxpayers) to teach wild animals to swim?

Alas the sides of the pond were too steep and too high for this little baby hedgehog, so the poor thing probably swam until exhausted.
I do tend to ensure nowadays that there is a ramp for frogs & other animals to crawl up if they want to get out.

To counterbalance Bill's kindness to animals, my neighbor told me yesterday that he'd trapped and shot 16 raccoons and 2 opossums in his back yard in 2010.
