Well I don't know either.
Whatever the case though, download albums ought to be much cheaper than they're being sold for on sites like iTunes. They used to have the excuse of manufacturing costs for CD cases, covers etc - obviously something that doesn't apply to a handful of mp3 files.
Most of the cost comes from marketing or from producing the songs. I'm sure recording studio time is very precious, it's a commodity and probably one that's terribly in demand. I don't think record companies ever claimed that the majority of the costs were made up in manufacture, that's just one part of many costs. I think most CDs are fairly priced, buy music if you can. There is no moral argument for piracy, it's probably never right.
Don't let it sound like my horse is so high, I download most of the music I have on my computer. I own around 60 albums from my 17 years. I've tried to strike up a policy of buying CDs of the smaller artists I like, or going to their shows. Even so I have an addiction which I could never maintain financially.
I'm fairly sure I have nothing made by your record company Ellie so it's okay for you.
