Don't lie, because you will feel bad and may get caught out. Tell as much truth as they need to know. You could, for instance, say you have a prior engagement or appointment, they don't need to know what it is. Then make sure you ARE doing something, like cutting your toenails, baking cup cakes, or whatever you want to do. If they want to know what you are doing, say it is personal.
