Just finalized plans to meet my best friend in the Mojave Desert in early January and his son-in-law is going to join us. What's more fun than desert, camping, beer, crap food and guns?

Good gin, good food and no guns?

Point taken, I'll pack some beef jerky. But the guns are non-negotiable; my buddy snores and I may have to take matters into my own hands.

Morning!

Is that the desert next to Las Vegas where the Mafia bury all their enemies?

Yeah, it covers most of the southwest. We camp in California, about 60 miles from Barstow. It's right off the remains of old Route 66.

Got up at 3 am. Went to the 4 am door buster black friday sale at the local department store. Got everything I went for and was back home by 5:45 am. It was amazingly civil and my first ever black friday shopping experience. Folks even helped me get the things I went for.

Black Friday? I'm assuming that's nothing to do with our good old Black Wednesday!

It is the day after that holiday I will not mention where folks go shopping. The stores draw folks in with teaser items priced sometimes even below cost. The stores are packed.

It's the biggest shopping day of the year and it scares me.

I want no part of this:

I'd rather shop from home than confront a bunch of bargain-crazed housewives at 5 in the morning.

It was very well managed where I went. It must all depend on where you shop I assume?

Other customers were very nice. Several helped me get a few big items in my cart. I had a lovely shopping experience.

What will you be doing with the guns?

Or are they just for protection from mutant local serial killers, like wot are in the movies and that?

We'll bring a pistol or two and maybe a shotgun, set up some targets and argue about who is the best shot. (I am.)

The area is extremely remote. It's miles from the nearest people and there's no phone coverage, so having access to a gun makes it a little easier to sleep at night. It's a little creepy out there at times and there's always the chance that you'll meet up with serial killers, smugglers, rattlesnakes or zombies. Be Prepared - that's what they taught me in the Boy Scouts. Angelic
