British Comedy Guide

Audio podcast tops 1 million downloads per month

Hey,

How can I develop my successful hobby into a career?

I was born with a gift. I'm a natural comic.

I starting co-hosting a little Podcast called Naive London Girl with a non-comic US buddy.

We make two recordings per month and Mevio hosts the shows.

We're now getting over 1 million downloads per month, regularly hitting number 1 in our section in iTunes. I've discovered Tracy Ullman listens to our show!

I'm a happy Engineer by day and now I'd love to do Comedy full time.

I get fanmail and invitations for meals from around the world - men, women, black, Asian, white write to tell me how funny they think I am.

Ken Campbell even began mentoring me - he was fascinated with my facial expressions (likening me to Jim Carey/Jack Black and Lucille Ball) and my brain leaps.

Hat Trick and the BBC ask me for 'Writing'. So I've pumped out a couple of sitcoms and 20 or so 'laugh out loud while reading' sketches. They look at them and say "... but have you got anyone famous associated with this project?"

I went to Chicago in August and performed at Second City - Yes the audience laughed and the other performers liked getting on stage with me.

I'm just a woman that makes people laugh.

So experts - how do you suggest I take my comedy thing and develop further? I.e. Make my living from Comedy.

Kindest Regards,

Vroomboo

Get an agent.

That's a nicely modest first post!

How do you get an agent? Who?

A bit of humility probably wouldn't hurt.

I'm a typical woman. Modesty - phoowy!

Humility...? Like Christopher Hitchins or Mother Teresa?

I'm fuelled by modesty. The modesty gained by spending all my free time on a artform that doesn't pay me a living wage.

Ken Campbell - I KNOW!!! I thought he would slam me. He called a woman that was better looking than me UGLY - I've never seen her perform again. Then he met me and Ken took me under his wing! Sheesh his funeral was sad and as odd as him!

And he was such a looker!

Ken Campbell was a maverick and he wanted that in others. Perhaps he knew he didn't have much time left so couldn't stand time wasters? I was a keen pupil!

Agents? Which Ones? The comedy ones don't regards Podcasts/improvisers. They can't see how they can make money out of me.

So neither funny or helpful really... (Yes - like Ken, I sense my life is very short)....

The story of Ken Campbell is true.

It happended during the forming of 'Showstopper - The Improvised Musical' at the Actors Centre. She was a fellow improviser.

Naive London Girl Blog (website) is written by the American Co-Host and founder.

The podcast is a different beast which can be found on iTunes.

What type of engineer are you?

Film yourself performing some bits and bobs you've written, and circulate them around to any agent you can find.
