Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (welcome to the Sticks)

This fish out of water French comedy sees a clumsy Postmaster punished by being relocated to Pas De Calais. Judging by this film the area appears to be a rain soaked back water occupied by eccentric oddballs who live off chips, fighting and bad booze.

I got the feeling as an English person that it was really about Pas de Calais's neighbours.

Anyone familiar with French regional stereotypes to know if this is a familiar portrait of the region or just they made up these traits because they are next to England and might be a bit like them?

From what I've read here and have seen on TV about the movie it is actually based on the local stereotypes over there.

There was no reference what so ever about the British.
