.... because you wanna f*** wee Tom Cruise?

Chipolata would try and f**k a rolling doughnut.

I'll play semi-seriously too.

I was brought up as a Catholic, if that counts. A bizarre sect with odd rules and only hundreds of millions of followers.

Most religions are bizzare and all controlling. Aethiest loyal.

I would say all religions, by their very nature, try to be controlling. As an agnostic Religious Studies teacher, it would be improper for me to comment on the 'bizarre' bit.

Maybe some sections of society could do with a bit more control.

I wasn't implying that religions controlling, per se, was a problem. Or religions generally. It appears that people are the problem.

Or were you merely advocating a return to National Service?

Well, religion clearly has it's problems, but at its best it can offer a moral framework for people to live by. And it seems to me todays society could do with a smidge more moral guidance. *puts tin hat on and waits for kicking*

Surely the law is the framework for all.

Nope. No issues with this. WIth the caveat that I'd argue that religions needn't/shouldn't be the only source of moral guidance.

Surely the law is the framework for all.

But surely the law isn't the same as morality?

Scientology is quite good fun if you like giving all your money away to a gang of shysters.

The law doesn't offer moral guidance. Which is what stupid poor people need.

Along with sterilisation.

Of course not, but it is a guideline for all no matter their beleifs.

But the law itself isn't always moral. The persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany was legal. (An extreme example, I know).

Do you Google your patter? Seems that way.

It's the notion of a global movements based on the writings of a fourth rate sci-fi writer and first rate fantasist that makes it so weirdly appealing.
