M&W means Mitchell And Webb to me now.
Morecambe & Wise Page 2
I like them on Peep Show and individually. I just don't like their sketch shows. M&W Look and M&W Situation didn't do anything for me.
Have you tried the Mitchell and Webb Sound on radio? There's new ones up now and they're very funny.
I'll give them ago. But if their anything like the TV shows. Which to be honest are better then some trash on TV, but that's not really an achievement.
Some sketches are quite good, but not enough for me to sit through a whole show.
I think the radio show is better than the TV sketch shows.
Only listened to 10 minutes but it does sound better. Listen to the rest later.
Having been to both Look and Sound, I've seen some sketches recording twice. Yipeeeee.
And in answer to the Vic Reeves discussion, I think I've seen/heard him say that he choose that style of glasses in homage to Eric.
UKTV Gold are currently running a poll to find the funniest M&W clip. Vote on the Website - http://www.uktvgold.co.uk/ - where there are 20 clips to watch and choose from. But hurry as it closes on Thursday!
Results special will be on 2nd December. Does this mean that they'll be showing M&W more regularly? I f**king hope so!
Results in an hour, if anyone else is interested.
COMEDY: Morecambe and Wise: The Greatest Moment
On: UKTV Gold
Date: Sunday 2nd December 2007
Time: 21:00 to 22:35 (1 hour and 35 minutes long)
Another chance to watch Britain's finest-ever double act whose shows have now entered the realms of comedy mythology. Liza Tarbuck narrates this trawl through some of their finest moments. Who could forget their celebrity guests who sportingly went along with the gags such as Glenda Jackson, Andre Previn, Angela Rippon and poor old Des O'Connor? Viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite routine online too.
I love Morcambe & Wise but I think I'll give this a miss.
I'd rather watch the complete shows.
So would I. But it's a kind of semi-documentary with vox-pops type bits too.
I rate Laurel & Hardy as the greatest comedy double act of all time and would put Morecambe & Wise second. The reason for this is that Ernie wasn't that funny but Stan and Ollie were equally funny and just as funny as Eric! We loved Ernie too, of course, but mainly because of his relationship with Eric, I feel.
The modern equivalent of Morecambe & Wise for me is The Mighty Boosh but (of course) they are very, very different to Morecambe & Wise. They would be wouldn't they! Totally different times. I was there to see the Morecambe & Wise shows when they were first broadcast and it was a completely different era. I am sure that the guys in Boosh would have done different stuff if they'd been around back then simply because their influences and audience would have been different!
Eric Morecambe was once asked what he and Ernie would have done if they'd not been funny and he said, 'become Mike and Bernie Winters' which I thought was hilarious. You'd have to know M&B Winters stuff to appreciate that!
Didn't Morecambe & Wise rate Abbott & Costello? (I never have myself, A&C made me cringe..)
I know that they definitely 'rated' L&H, not seen or heard anything about A&C though.
Balls I missed it... will it be repeated to death anytime soon?
Second showing is...

Well worth tuning in for, IMO. Good interviews with both wives (and some other random idiots).
