6.At the local fete, I was selling rock cakes. I noticed that if I arranged them in groups of three, there was one cake left over. The same thing happened when I tried to arrange them in groups of five, seven amd nine. It was only when I tried arranging them in groups of 11 that all the cakes were used. What is the minimum number of cakes that I had? 946. Assume the number of cakes is A. Then A-1 is divisible by 3, 5, 7 and 9. So, A-1 is a multiple of 5*7*9 = 315 (note: 9 is also a multiple of 3, so 3 must not be included). We are looking for a value of N for which holds that 315*N + 1 is divisible by 11. After some trying it turns out that N = 3. This means that I had 946 cakes.
7.What links these pictures: Robin Hood (Robin Hood's Bay; Sean Connery and Russell Crowe have both played Robin Hood; Nottingham; Mel Brooks directed 'Robin Hood - Men in Tights')

8.Unscramble these two words A A B C E E E I M R R R R S S T W STRAWBERRIES & CREAM

broom! broom!

It was so hot last night that it was doing my head in. I had a very big struggle over number 6. In the end, there were figures in the thousands and accompanying hallucinations. I'm now going to suggest 946. That is 9 x 7 x 5 x 3 (+ 1) which means that if you divide the total by any of those numbers you are left with one extra cake. If you divide 946 by 11, though, you get an exact number. But I'm not saying it's definitely right!
