Search for a new stand up star!

Hi all!

Durex and Soho Theatre are on the hunt for a new star in stand up comedy.

We want to be sure that this competition is open to people from all over the country and not just people in London so am posting it on here to let people know all about it.

The competition will take place over four semi finals in February at Soho Theatre with the grand final taking place in the main space at the theatre in front of a panel including Steve Marmion (Artistic Director of Soho Theatre), Steve Bennett (Editor Chortle website), Shappi Khorsandi, Kathy Burke and Janette Linden (PBJ Management).

The first prize is £1000, a £250 one night stand survival pack from Durex, mentoring from Soho Theatre and a performance of own solo show at the theatre.

Entry is easy, just upload a one minute clip of your best material to the One Night Stand Up YouTube page.

All information on how to enter can be found on this website:

www.onenightstandup.com

Please enter if you think you would be suitable or if you know anyone suitable then let them know too.

Thanks for reading this!

Eurgh.

That is true!

We just want to make sure that people all over the country are aware of the competition, not just London based comedians and we will be assisting with travel expenses for non-London based comedians.

Now I just need a video. Good job I'm getting a camcorder for Christmas. Win!

Alternatively if Durex are sponsors - 'One-night slip-up?'
Especially as it's icy now too!

Have to echo Veronica's observation about the venue location - it's extreemely handily located for the rest of the 'plebs'. On the other hand perhaps there aren't any funny folk outside the capital?

In terms of 'new acts' you would be quite wrong. Higher concentration in London, but certainly not higher quality. Obviously established acts do find themselves gravitating there.

It has to be somewhere.

Yeah, plus it's done in conjunction with the Soho theatre. Which is is Soho. In London.

Hi guys

I really hope nobody is taking what we are doing the wrong way, we completely recognise that there are a lot of fantastic stand up comedians around the country who don't gig in London but we at Soho Theatre are based in here. We want to be able to invite these comedians down to take part and the only way we can do that is by asking for entrants via video.

If you do feel like it might be right for you, and it is a competition for all levels of entry, then please have a look at the website.

Don't worry Lee, no one who isn't just causing trouble thinks that ;)

I think BCG might have found itself a new mod.

I stand corrected then - thanks for the demographic analysis of the nation's comedy potential hot-spots. :$
