Hmm, good question Madam. You're obviously referring to Miranda with the latter, and this has caused much debate already, has it not. Yes we need funny sitcoms but we also need well written ones. Miranda has its place but it isn't going to win awards for originality or its writing, is it?
Recent examples of well written unfunny sitcoms have been Roger & Val, Rev, and some (though not I) would say The Trip. These are much more likely to win awards for their writing, don't you think?
Personally I think you need a bit of both on TV, but I'd really like to see a return to the type of well rounded sitcom that was both clearly well written and funny. One such sitcom had an episode shown the other night, WHTTLL?. That would clean up at the awards if it were made today, the balance was perfect.
