The second worse thing about LN being dead is how many people have made the shirley joke on Facebook. 13 and counting.

Same, and mostly it's misquoted. Pirate

Yes.

Now who will be in below average spoof films? A sad day...

His best work was Aiplane and Police Squad because he played them straight. The rest were too tongue-in-cheek. Still, he seemed like a good fella and performer.

Wonderful and very apt.

EDIT - except it has now been taken down because of a copyright claim. C**ts.

Almost two years after it was uploaded... opportunistic tossers.

I did a tear, but somehow it is not the same if he doesn't fart at the end,

Sad news, but a good innings. The thing that made LN so good in the Airplane movies especially, was that having been pretty much a B-movie actor, he really understood that he was the joke. Playing the part of bad straight actor appearing in a comedy worked really well (when he had a good script to go with it). Agree that Police Squad was his finest work (The Naked Gun films obeyed the law of diminishing returns). Sure, he made some terrible spoof movies towards the end of his career, but he was a bit of a one-off and apparently a really nice and normal guy in real life. RIP.

RIP Leslie. The inventor of deadpan acting.

Watching Naked Gun in honour.

I bought it a couple of months ago but hadn't watched it yet.

I'm saving watching my Russell Howard's Good News DVD for a similar occasion.

I shall save School of Rock and Year One for that glorious inevitable day.

Really funny. Loads of stuff I'm laughing out loud to.
