Christ knows. But I think he copied it from Roald Dahl's The Witches, where that witch put a little girl in a painting. :(

Darn pesky witches. Was it a good painting at least? Where she could learn to play cards with some friendly smoking dogs?

No, she was aaaaaaaaall alone in a farm house, and the picture of her kept moving around the painting, and getting older and older, until one day she disappeared. :(
