And brought a hundred Led Zep riffs with them.

I never met any musician yet who didn't want the fame and the money. That isn't to say that they didn't want to make good music too!
Quote: PhQnix @ July 20 2008, 8:37 PM BSTGiving an album away with a paper feels tacky because you're forcing something on people. Anyone who makes a decision to buy the paper has the CD forced upon them. Likewise anyone who buys the CD has the paper forced upon them. You can't really get away from one form of advertising or another.
There's always a bin...

I'm not a big Coldplay fan, but I think 'In My Place' is a magnificent song.

It is reasonable to give it away, but pick a decent way to do so; through The Mail is just an awful decision to me; the only-ONLY reason they've done it is because they will be guaranteed a fat, fat wadge of cash. Which is fine, they should get paid, but I dont think it's snobby to think it's an awfully tacky way to go about it-there are other ways they could have gotten the music out there.

Winterlight you seem to have missed my post about Arcade Fire. Please could you point me in the direction of the bands they are derived from?

Quote: Winterlight @ July 20 2008, 8:43 PM BSTApart from Glasvegas!
Glasvegas are cool, Daddys Gone is immense.
Is that not an Austin Powers song.
One of the things wrong with a lot of current bands is the line ups. STILL two bloody guitars, bass and drums. And standing in front of a mike stand and poncing about waving your head is not much of a performance anymore.
Um... Talking Heads...?
Oh and did you know that McFly are still releasing their album commercially in September?
