What are you listening to now? Page 291

The Hold Steady-Stay Positive.

Just got this. Now they are a real band.

Why on earth would you want to give away your new album with a newspaper anyway? Seems a bit odd to me. Yes, its publicity and perhaps gets you out there to a lot of people who wouldn't normally buy your stuff, but I'd feel pretty ashamed to be giving it away with a paper.

They said it was becasue they want as many people as possible to hear their music, and think they'll get to reach a few people that wouldn't normally have occasion to listen to a McFly album. Older people or whatever.
Cos, if you get a free album in a paper, you're bound to at least give it a little listen.
They reckon.

I accept it. I don't have to care for it or pretend to respect though, do I?

So why waste your breath on them?

The Hold Steady-Stay Positive.

Catch up Matt, if you'd acquired it from the internet you would've got it months ago. :P

Awesome record though, I'm buying their back catalogue as soon as I can afford it.

I think they probably gave it away as it's a guaranteed wedge of cash from the paper AND they must be nearing their sell by date now. I doubt McFly made this decision solely by themselves.

I get why really, I would just be ashamed. If I was in the band and someone came to me with the idea, reaching my sell-by date or not I wouldn't do it. At least maybe do a Radiohead and put it out 'free' on-line, but with a paper? It just seems, I dont know, tacky. Im not sure I mean tacky, but it's something anyway-and not a good something.

They ALSO said they've recently left their management/record company/summink and now are their own bosses completely, they've started their own label or something.

eek.

I have learned SO MUCH about McFly. More than I ever wanted to know...

Yeah, but, Christ-I just couldn't show my face in public if I'd done something like that, I'd feel sort of ashamed!

Quote: PhQnix @ July 20 2008, 8:06 PM BST

I am prejudging them. But they toured with Busted and Lil Chris. Even if they make there own music they're involved in this scene which is devoted to manufacturing bands out of average musicians, promoting mediocrity and banality ahead of talent and passion. Even if they are a talented band of musicians (very doubtful) they're supporting a bunch of poseurs who aren't any good.

If you'd said it like that at the beginning, I wouldn't have had a paddy.

Quote: Winterlight @ July 20 2008, 8:07 PM BST

So why waste your breath on them?

I like to feel righteous and snobby?

I know, I agree. And it's the Mail isn't it? Yikes.

S'alright then.
*puts water gun back in holster*

Laughing out loud

Yes. Just like Geri Halliwell was a UN spokesperson.

I'm listening to a bunch of classic Who songs that enterprising Rock Band (the video game) hackers have ripped into multitrack audio files. It's fun to separate Daltrey's vocals, Moon's drums, Entwistle's bass tracks and Pete's guitars and listen to them on their own. I always expected that we'd one day be able to obtain multitrack recordings of our favorite bands, but I figured it'd be the record labels who sold them to us. All in good time, I suppose ...

Just to make it clear: I don't like there music.

I don't like you're spelling/grammar either. Unimpressed

I was f**ked off I couldn't buy it on it's first week of release, but I found mtyself just about the poorest I've ever been-all nicely cashed up now though! Mmm . . . money . . .

Back catalogue wise-I would go 'Boys And Girls In America', then ' . . .Almost Killed Me', and finish up with 'Seperation Sunday'. All awsome albums, but I think thats how I would rank them at the moment. I want to see them live so bad, they're just about the only band I really love that I've never seen live and it's starting to get on my tits, because I know how great they're supposed to be.
