Spoiler.
Who was the most egotistical Lennon? Aunt Mimi.
LOVELY NORTH EAST SPECIAL
This is dedicated to the 20 something git from that region who did it a complete disservice by looking down his nose at me at the posh Surrey golf course. It was as if to say I was into Grandad stuff when I mentioned the two legendary outfits. Neither obviously suggest easy cover versions. Each is unique and legendary and a key part of the history in that region as someone with distant links to it like my elegant if dishevelled good self knows only too well. And look at the kids in the first clip who incidentally brought a warm tear to my eyes. In fact, I blubbed joyously this afternoon with every clip for all are as understandably as original as one might expect. So yes you. The one with issues at the end of hole number 18. You are just antiquated mate and up your own arsehole. It was obvious in how you turned your head and walked quaintly.
These brilliant songs which, by definition, attract non-conformist oddballs, albeit all with a certain naive quality because that is the nature of the magnet, will live forever and forever and forever.........

Have you seen this? Quite appropriate at the moment.

Oh yus.
That's Prefab Sprout isn't it.
I'm doing the cover versions of them next.
I do know it well and I think it's magnificent. Although they are so different from each other, I love - love - Prefab Sprout and Lindisfarne. Both have been deep in my DNA for decades. There is something about the chord structures which totally works for me along with the lyrics. It is my North Eastern sound which I could try to argue is a North Eastern sound although I would fail horribly in rational terms with that argument. What came along much later was the Unthanks - or were - who totally sealed it for me. And generally I am not known for bias. Musical gods and goddesses, all of 'em.
I would counterargue that Prefab Sprout are total and utter f**king shit.
I once listened to Head in my arse to Mempiss and it is stunning. It's stunning they can be so mediocre but insist on being taken so seriously. File under Damon All Banned. Wankuz.

I like the Inspiral Carpets a lot. I have a ticket in my tickets which proves that I had a ticket for them. I'm not sure I got there. I went out on a limb from all of my mates to see the Stone Roses at Ally Pally after football. I was so out of it but got there alone up the steep hill. Remember it well. I can recall a group thing with arms around each other for the Farm. We knew we were being ludicrous but I never ever expected to be in that sort of scenario and will be forever grateful that I threw myself into it in what was my late 20s. The records and the gigs blur a little. The Inspirals gig doesn't quite ring out to me in my head. I have a feeling I might have been unwell although, when I left a job, a mate of mine wrote an ode to me in the style of Stanley Holloway which was all about me and the Inspirals. A talented lad. He would be, gawd, 65 now.
Inspiral Carpets. First time of music: Choose a cool name.

Cool as milk and f**k.
The Prefab covers are coming up.

They were the first band I ever got into
And they were the first band I ever saw live (went to the Hacienda nightclub afterwards - shit)
They were supported by this lot, who were fantastic...

Hey, I saw The High live at the ICA in The Mall.
A bit of a poncy venue which didn't quite live up to what it was on the outside.
The only other time I went there was for Universal Love School which was Clare Grogan post Altered Images where I acted like a clown by talking up her appearance when she was standing unknowingly right behind me. She wasn't impressed, nor were the rather po faced people I was with.
From what you say, you must be a lot younger than me but I'm still kind of 12 and always was so it doesn't suggest major division.
My first gig was Electronic in 1991. I had a good time but mainly cos I was a sad little nerd. Now I'm a sad big nerd.
Haha!!
Her voice was bloody awful...

How was Barney?
Wildly out of tune as usual?

She didn't know she was behind you?
The only thing I remember about Altered Images was the NTNON pisstake.
