The Sound

Post-punk band who weren't on my radar at the time. Only heard these guys for the first time today. Impressed.

Chappers, they've got a bit of Echo and the Bunnymen about them, without being clones. Or maybe you already know them?

Posted the above a year ago.

Interesting band to read up on, and sad to learn about the singer's suicide in 1999.

btw wigwam willy, discovered an Aussie punk band I never knew about yesterday.

RADIO BIRDMAN - New Race

I bought a copy of "Stranded" by The Saints at the time, and saw them supporting the Ramones & Talking Heads in London in '77.

I am going to have a proper read of the last few months of this thread very soon.

I have to find a period when I can inwardly digest. :)

I seem to remember having both those records at the time.

Listening to "No Exit" by Blondie which I'd never considered buying before I saw it in a charity shop for £1.99. Double as well with some live stuff on the second disc.

Quite pleasant actually.

You must have had your finger on the pulse more than me then. I don't recall the name Radio Birdman at all, whereas The Saints were pretty well known.

I can imagine that Radio Birdman didn't fit in with the rather uniform/approved Punk look of the day over here, with their long hair and clothes, and they also risked disapproval with the guitarist's obvious experience, skill, and soloing, but they sound pretty great on that clip - Stooges/garage, and eg Brian James got away with the fact he was a cool guitar player who could play a bit, and knock out a killer solo.

I think Radio Birdman was very cheap in a sale (before the days of Charity Shops).

Listening to Wishing Well by Paul Rodgers accompanied by a couple of members of Queen.

Officially the Return of the Champions live Queen CD.
