Went to Brighton for the day and found loads of second hand record shops. Bought a bundle and currently listening Widowmaker album. They were formed by ex-Love Affair singer Steve Ellis and Ariel Bender from Mott the Hoople.

Fun interview and stuff about Ariel Bender on that fantastic documentary about Mott that was on BBC4 a couple of years ago. Hope they repeat it soon!

Anyhow, know it is a bit wimpy but this is the best pop group of all time and the man is a British genius. Have just so much time for him and everything they have done makes me wonderfully happy. The North East which is THE north. Hello Newcastle. Love you people:

(Spoke to someone this week who lived within a mile of Wendy Sprout - just amazing)

I'm not a big PS fan but I love about 4 or 5 songs of theirs/his and this one is definitely one of them. It's about Bruce Springsteen, innit?

Well, it is, and it was a highlight of the late 1980s. Really, this is one of only two guys who could do Disney music (outside of Disney) in the classic mould and yet with a very modern and highly idiosyncratic take on it. Really, really special. Also moving and intelligent song structures. The other is Stephin Merritt of Magnetic Fields who is American, later, more campy and that's cool, but not with the voice and he isn't ours. McAloon is one of the truly great Brits of my generation. Take these. They are exquisite mate. Dream the dream but in a down to earth way too. Kitchen (ware) sink meets the stars. I am going to have a Prefab week this week on here.

(Actually, Paddy M is quite a bit older than me but in that ball park, don't want to age myself too quickly!)
