Dharma And Greg (UK) Page 2

Oh I dunno, it's a very complicated law anyway. :S

Indeed.
We've got a doctor, if only we had a decent lawyer.

Can I suggest Tamsin Greig or maybe Sally Philips? And for the husband, um, Martin Clunes pops into my head but I'm not so sure, he's looking old now.

Well, he's not an exact double for the original Greg...

Oh, I was imagining if it were to be remade well.

Remaking a show that has already failed on the very same channel? Oh, do f**k off.

I long for the day when an executive at ITV, sees sense, slams their fist on the office table and orders, nay demands(!), a remake of My Two Dads.

(With Ant & Dec.)

If they could really go after intellectual property theft for taking a premise for a show Friends lawyers would have been all over Coupling. I'm sure there must be something behind the scenes at work, like whoever owns the IP pushing for the remake or being friends with someone in the right place. Maybe the original network (iirc ABC) stepped on the project too much and the creators want a second chance at making the show they wanted to make?

I'm thinking maybe between the Darma and Greg and the Grounded for Life remakes maybe there'll finally be a good, official reworking of a US sitcom.

If this show does go-ahead, I'd like to see (Girls Aloud star) Sarah Harding playing Dharma. And perhaps Gareth Gates as Greg.

That is true, Coupling was an obvious reworking/ripoff of Friends. Will someone please explain this stupid law, none of it makes sense - I can't understand why Networks and TV co's do pay big bucks to remake a show when some shows so blatantly get away scott free with copying, that's stealing a show's whole concept. It is very confusing!

I can't think our remake would be calling itself Dharma and Greg though. The name name Dharma will have no connection for most Brits like it does for Yanks.

I'm probably forgetting a lot about the actual concept. But I thought it was so vague that even if it was stolen no one would notice.
Uptight bloke and hippy woman get together?

Not at all.

Haha! I actually loved that when I was little.

I disagree. They share superficial similarities, but in terms of tone and style they're very different shows. That's not to say the commissioners who gave Coupling the go-ahead didn't hope for a Friends style audience, but I doubt very much Moffat wrote it to rip-of Friends.

Right, I've decided our Greg should be Michael Landes, and Dharma should be Hannah S Club/Primeval.
