She's Leaving Home

This is kind of a weird sketch. At first it was just gonna be the first three scenes but the I just kept going. I know its pretty long, I'd love to hear what some of you think if you'd kindly take the time to trudge through it.

1. INT: KITCHEN. NIGHT

JOHN sees a note on the kitchen table. He picks it up and reads and becomes tearful as he does so.

EMMA (V.O.)
(adult voice)
John, though it pains me to do this our situation has become unbearable over the past few months and now I have made the hard decision to leave you.

I think you'd really like him. I'll come back for the rest of my things some time when your at work, seeing you now would simply be too painful.

3. INT: KITCHEN. NIGHT

Back to JOHN who is now very tearful.

JOHN (reading along) & EMMA(V.O.)
But someday I hope we can be friends again. Goodbye, Emma.

JOHN sobs. Reveal note to be written in crayon.

JOHN rises quickly from bed. He is sweating and looks agitated.

JOHN
No!

John looks around him and calms down. He breathes heavily.

Gemma, a 4/5 year old girl walks in.

GEMMA
John, are you okay?

JOHN
I'm fine.

GEMMA goes up to him and hold his hand.

GEMMA
You're a terrible liar.

JOHN
Its nothing, really.

Gemma
Tell me John.

JOHN looks away awkwardly.

GEMMA
This is about her again isn't it. You still have feelings for her.

JOHN sighs and reluctantly nods his head in affirmation.

GEMMA
John, I think what we've got here is pretty special. Please don't ruin it over some girl who left you. Give this, give us a shot.

JOHN
You're right, from now on I'm focusing on me and you.

GEMMA
Great.

JOHN
Now, come on you I'd better tuck you back in.

GEMMA
That's all I wanted to hear.

JOHN holds GEMMA'S hand and walks her out of the room.

JOHN looks hurt.

JOHN
You can be so cruel. You've changed, you're...you're not the girl I loved.

GEMMA
Oh please John, I was never the girl you loved.

JOHN looks more hurt.

JOHN
How..how dare you, I gave up everything for you, I turned my life upside-down.

GEMMA
Well I was just a kid then John, I didn't know what I was getting into.

JOHN
I want you out of this house.

GEMMA
But John..

JOHN
(shouts)

EMMA
Oh John I never sould have left, I wanted to come back but I was ashamed. Are you crying?

JOHN
(sobbing)
No its just something in my eye.

EMMA
(sobbing)
Ha, me too.

EMMA hugs JOHN.

EMMA
Oh, Daddy. I never stopped loving you. I promise I'll never leave you again.
