When did the "Dandy" become "Viz"?

Obviously the "Dandy" is not completely Viz like, but wouldn't people on here, rather have Desperate Dan or Korky the Cat? I know a strip about Harry Hill and the knitted character is popular, but it's not the same is it?
Or am I being an old fart?

Eh?

Haven't read the Dandy in 30 years and it was shit even then. Whizzer & Chips was my comic of choice.

Agreed. And each year the W&C annual was a highlight of the Christmas stocking. :)

My mum very generously orderd a subscription to The Dandy for my kids.

Then she read a copy.

It really is very crude.

Plus they always come with some totally naff toy glued to the front that lasts 14 seconds and rips the front page.

It's getting harder and harder if, like me, you're trying to protect your kids from all the shit that's floating about out there.

I've just ordered a whole load of 80's Marvel comics for my 8yr old - I've also seen back catalogues of stuff like 'Smash' and 'Whizzer & Chips' on E-bay.

Seriously thinking about buying a shed load and popping them through the letterbox every Thursday (always the traditional day for comic delivery - they wouldn't get into the shops 'til Friday, so you could feel smug).

* waggles pipe with crossness*

I liked Buster although I found the philosophical advice page rather dry.

I liked that a lot, but I was definitely a Beano man, used to love The Bash Street Kids. The Dandy never appealed as much.

Wizer and chips, first edition had a cardboard "banger" on the cover I remember...Sort of a triangular thing folded over with a paper flap, when brought smartly down in the air it made a satisfying bang...

Just had a 'Proustain' moment there...

That is a very cool idea.

I wouldn't say that Viz is porn or overtly sexual, it's probably Cert 15 comedy.

You be pleased to know there are planning a Desperate Dan Appreciation Society, they are just ironing out the Kinks...

Aagh!

I can't make head nor tail of this question but I am curious to know as to whether Tim Walker was a Whizzer or a Chip.
