The first in a series of sketches performed by under the title of You'll Never Hear The End of It. In Plinth I play retired Colonel Archibald Sotheby-Forbes who takes his beloved dog Saxton out on a perimeter patrol and comes across a wilding rotter. He also muses on Lord Nelson's plinth and society today.
Plinth Sketch
Voice reminded me of the outtakes of Tom Baker's voiceover for a Symphony ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96a7UnoJmfI - but in the style of Arthur Streeb-Greebling. Alas, I needed the volume on max to hear, but even then couldn't quite catch everything. And your credits - to your credit - reminded me of The Wind in the Willows: "Speech by Toad. There will be other speeches by Toad during the evening. Address by Toad. Song by Toad (composed by Toad). Other compositions by Toad, sung by Toad, etc".
I think that's a compliment if so thanks. I was going for Arthur Streeb-Greebling meets Hercules Grytpype-Thynne. The original voice was very much like the Colonel from Dennis the Menace but the only problem was I've played a character in this same show with a similar voice.
I do like crediting myself and who ever else involved in the project as it's only two people the credits reflect that. I hope you will listen to the second Plinth sketch when it comes out in a few weeks.
Never hear the end of it? I couldn't hear the beginning of it!!
Yeap. Sound needs sorting guys. Sorry.
Sounds like a pissed Kenneth Williams, with a stocking over his head.
Whether that's a good or bad thing, I'm not sure.

I admit it is quieter then I would have liked but it's hard to keep the characters voice consistent and be loud. He is also meant to be mumbling to himself. I've said this before and it's not a excuse but it's the type of sketch which you should listen to with headphones to get the stereo effect. The next sketch featuring the same character is a little louder so give it a chance when it comes out.

That's the best review I've ever got!

Diction, projection and enunciation! Even if your character is whispering or mumbling. (or so I was instructed in an acting lesson at school)

I don't think it's the way I'm projecting just the volume is a tad to low. Nothing a good pair headphones won't sort out
sorry, couldn't make out a word for the first couple of minutes of the preformance (!) so gave up.
The SFX are too loud to complete with the mumbling. It felt a bit contrived as if trying too hard...maybe too forced and OTT
If you've put SootyJ into retirement then I'm going to be very cross James.
No Seriously I agree with everyone else that it was too hard to hear.
And WIn makes a good point about the SFX A monologue like that probably needed a slower pace & a different timing, but whats the point of a good pause if all you can hear is marching or whatever it was in the background.

I'd fire this Production company Lone Mic, or tell them to buy another one.

OTT Me?
...OTT is a good thing. Sometimes. This seemed a bit desperate, - or maybe I mean to say hurried - sorry. If I were the writer I'd have asked you to portray the character within your vocal range and accent capabilities, re-record and lose the SFX.
