It's either that, or the channel just weren't willing to wait and have no new Misfits broadcast until next year.

Maybe, but I reckon it's money. And ego. I'm sure the makers of Misfits would have bent over backwards to try and accomodate his busy schedule.

Too bad he's leaving. Twat. 
He was the least likeable from the start, but then grows on you and starts to become a great character. They had set him up to be the star with so much potential for depth and growth.
His movies might bomb. This show is just taking off and getting known around the world. Great writing and really picks up in season 2. He should have juggled both and tried to make this work until he knew for sure his "film" career was going to work out.
Can't blame anyone for wanting to get ahead, but remember how you got there!

Series 2 wasn't as good as series 1. And the Christmas special was very mehy.
