What does everyone think about this show? I'm personally not that keen on it, but in my opinion, it is one of the better US sitcoms in the past few years.
Everybody Loves Raymond
It's OK, but I've always thought of it as a watered down Seinfeld. I wouldn't put it down as one of the better US sitcoms of the past few years. Scrubs, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Office, even Two and a Half Men are much better.
I like 'Everyone Loves Raymond'. It's quite 'textbook' in the way the episodes fit together.
I don't really go out of my way to watch it or anything, but yes, I suppose I do quite like it. It's not challening or controversial, it doesn't requre analysis and cult reference knowledge. Nice, simple humour.
My favourite US sitcom of recent times is Jake in Progress, but that was cancelled one episode into the second season.
(I also love Becker, and find King of Queens pleasantly inoffensive in much the same way as ELR. But Two and a Half Men I've just never managed to watch more than about five minutes of, sorry!)
No need to apologise. We obviously have different tastes - e.g. I couldn't stand Becker.
I'm not a big fan of Two and a Half Men. It was the only show I could think of that compares to ELR in that it is v. popular Stateside and is inoffensive etc etc.
Was Everybody Loves Raymond ever shown in the evening? The only time I ever saw it was about 8 in the morning before I went to work. I wasn't a massive fan but used to watch it. The brother always made me laugh.
Remember Raymond being shown on Channel 4 (last year?) during the prestigious Friday night slot. It disappeared very quickly after a few episodes.
Its just a bit cutesy for me. Nice enough comedy and a few laughs, but miles away from the likes of Seinfeld, Frasier, etc.

On Paramount it certainly was.

The brother was the best thing in it. The guy who played him also popped up in Seinfeld as Jerry's mechanic (the one who steals his car because he thinks Seinfeld isn't taking care of it.)

Yeah, he's been in a few things and is the best thing in Raymond. Tends to get a lot of the top lines and deliver them really well.

I know what you mean about King of Queens. I initially hated it, but it gradually grew on me. The thing that instantly set me off on the wrong foot with it was the hideous "driving home to you..." theme song. In the show itself, he never seems that chuffed to be driving home to his missus!
I liked the show , especially the guy who played the brother and the parents..We lost the old dad recently and he will be missed in the states..Valentine
The brother has a new show, when this football mess is over here in the States I plan on it being a regular viewing,,,unless they boot it off..We are getting now on PBS what is called "one season wonders" from over the pond..some are really funny..makes a Yank wonder just what it takes to make a British male laugh!!!Valentine
Oh? What shows have been on "one season wonders" then?
I'll watch ELR if there's nothing else on ...it's got a few great jokes but no real spark for me. I hate 'King of Queens', the main guy is just an a*****e! Every episode he's trying to trick his wife into doing something for him so he can slob out and get drunk.
My favourite american show that never made it big was Ned and Stacy. That had some great comedy with a brilliant cast like thomas hayden church.
I kind of know what you mean about King of Queens, but there's something about it which appeals to me, in a strange 'cosy' way. Which probably makes sense to no one outside of my own little universe.
