TV/FILM Social Networking Promotion

Hey,

Does anyone have any good examples of the different ways some TV shows and films have promoted themselves through things like social networking sites?

Ta.

There's the Blair Witch phenomenon of course.

Facebook fan pages are a pretty big promotional tool. The US office one has over 5 million subscribers, who get constand updates on up and coming shows, and lots of fan bonuses like trivia quizzes etc.

Was that the sort of thing you meant?

Didn't Snakes On A Plane only get made because of a big online campaign? That turned out well. Whistling nnocently

Ta, and anything, really; though more the kind of thing where it's made to seem like the show is real, or people from the show are contacting you, or talking to you, that sort of thing, rather than fan pages.

Aaah okay. Nope.

:D

They managed to get a whole Government!

For example, some shows/films have characters set up their own Facebook pages and stuff like that. Any examples of shows or films that have done that in a cool way?

I am actually going to be looking myself by the way, I'm just seeing if anyone knows any good examples.

I'm far too lazy to find links, but the Coming Of Age characters all have their own Facebook profiles.

Thanks.

They also have Twitter lists of people who reckon they're like their favourite characters. Or something. http://twitter.com/comingofagebbc3/lists

Misfits apparently did this on Twitter during the show.

Something obvious has probably escaped my attention, but Skins in association with Myspace had all sorts of promotional things happening between them, certainly in the first series.

I think all the characters had their own pages, exclusive content was available, somehow, there were gigs, house parties - all sorts. It's the most successful link up I can think of at the moment.

Skins/Misfits/Coming of Age. Nothing says 'teen promotion' like social networking...

By the way, did they ever find out what happened to those poor kids?

So does Raoul Moat. A more popular one.
