I grant you, 'canned laughter' is probably not the exact term, but "laughter that is not from the original scene" is a bit long-winded, I thought.

Anyhow, that is straying from the point, we need more writers that are in touch with today's society. Younger writers or contributers to help free-up the stuffiness and PC gone mad execs!!

The restraints are too tight!

Certainly the restraints are too tight. Execs are very wary of taking any risks.

Actually, I have watched My Hero again relatively recently, and often enjoy Not Going Out repeats a few years down the line. But otherwise it's a valid point, and one that's occurred to me on more than a few occasions. Even good - nay, great - shows like Outnumbered lack a little in the re-watch-ability stakes.

I fear that it's these "younger writers" who are the ones penning the throwaway tosh, no matter how good it may or may not be at broadcast.

I still think there is a good balance of comedies hitting our screens these days, just a different generation to some degree, rather than a drop in "classic scripts"

I still miss Still Game, Saxondale and the recent The IT Crowd ... but there are still many other comedies to keep me entertained.

A lot of comedies stopped "while on a high" ... although some of us would rather see continual episodes, even at the gamble of weak scripts, thin story lines and tired acting!!

Oh well, there is always The Bill (lolol @ 100% satire)
