24 - Todo List

This is meant to be a quick 15 second sketch. I'm using it to test out some new green screening techniques. And it was done at a bit short notice but hopefully something there?

Jack Baeur is stood on the rooftop of a large building, the city is visible behind him. He's talking to his boss on the phone.

JACK
Don't worry about the bomb, it's on my to-do list.

Split Screen: We see Jack's to do list. 1) Diffuse Nuclear Bomb (unticked). 2) Buy Some Milk (Ticked).

JACK
I've got it all under control.

Large nuclear explosion happens behind Jack, large mushroom cloud rises into the Sky.

JACK
What's that noise?

BOSS
(V.O.)
That's a nuclear bomb you asshole!

JACK
Oh.... Oh!

Jack turns to see the Mushroom cloud.

JACK
That's a big one.

BOSS
(V.O.)
Did you get the Milk?

JACK
Of course I did! I'm not an idiot!

Jack raises a Milk carton to his lips and takes a sip as he watches the mushroom cloud in the distance.

How about it's a carton of orange juice instead?

I like it.

Will it be live action or animation?

Oh I like that idea that he screwed up the task he did do! Cheers David, I will work on that.

Thanks Steve.

It will be live action but the environment will be CG. I'm attempting to do what these guys did.

You can see how they use the dots on the green screen to match the handheld camera movement up with the CG environment. If this works then possibilities open up! :)

Now, that's intresting what software are you using to do that with? blender?

Good stuff!

I'm using PFHoe Pro to analyse the footage and work out the camera's movement. Then I export the camera movement to Blender and mix in all the CG elements.

Unfortunately I didn't move the camera enough when we shot the footage so it's not going to be as convincing as I had hoped. But I've learned a tonne of stuff working with PFHoe pro and I can't wait to try it again.

Why thank you Charley :0)

I think the carton of orange juice will make it work, man!

Love the sketch and I think the orange juice would be a killer punchline.

Thanks guys. We decided to do a re-shoot this weekend because of a technical issue so still coming soon!

My brother also came up with a visual gag for after the orange juice punchline. Which means I'm now relegated to junior-assistant-co-writer!

Probably too late to the party but I really think this sketch should end with the line "Did you get the milk?". The last bit where he says "Of course, I'm not an idiot" feels a bit tagged-on to me and weakens the gag.

So (IF I'M NOT BEING TOO CHEEKY) I'd slightly change it to:

Jack Baeur is stood on the rooftop of a large building, the city is visible behind him. He's talking to his boss on the phone.

JACK
Don't worry about the bomb, it's on my to-do list.

PAUSE AS MUSHROOM CLOUD CONTINUES TO RISE.

BOSS
(V.O.)
Did you get the Milk?

Loved this and thought immediately as I read it first pass that the last line should be

Did you get the milk?

END:

That makes it lovely and understated. No need to sledgehammer it home with any explanation. It's a good gag / visual. I could hear a real belly laugh from an audience at that point. Going on to a laboured tag is IMO not needed.

So what I'm saying is that I agree with Lee only he said it first.

Ta for the chuckle.

B

I'm now the assistant to the deputy-junior-assistant-co-writer :D

Thanks guys, that's a nice idea that I had not thought of. My only concern is that I'm a crap actor so even delivering a simple punchline is very difficult, so a visual reveal may work better.

It's definitely another option in the edit though so thank you!

Reshoots done! Back to post-pro!

Too late, but I would of suggested Henman's edit and then finish with the direction.

JACK WIPES AWAY HIS MILK MOUSTACHE.
