I thought the Japanese schoolgirls were hilarious, I LOLed at Lucas' character singing like a Samurai warrior.
Come Fly With Me - Series 1 Page 8
Loved the japs song. Only laugh out loud moment for me!
Nobody cares what I thought about this so I won't go into any detail.
Walker is right, it isn't a sitcom.
Murphy is also right it is racist.
Quote: chipolata @ December 30 2010, 12:27 PM GMTThere's a lot to be said for the 10 to 15 minute format. Marion and Geoff, Directors Commentary, Look Around You, Midmorning Matters - I'd like to see more shows that length.
And you will.
I post about as often as Arsenal win the Premiership but I just had to express just how brilliant 'Come Fly With Me' is. Racist? What an amazing conclusion. Matt and David take the piss out of all cultures and races, not least British and white. I hope that the BBC do not give in to the screeching and howling of the hard of thinking and pull it. Some people have even been screaming "Minstrels!". Oh dear.
In my opinion, and my American wife's, it's a comedy diamond. The bit where Matt's character is going through his first sale at the burger bar had me howling. What I particularly appreciate is that although all the characters are over the top and grossly exaggerated, there is actually a lot of subtlety beneath the bluster and that is what makes it so funny, it's not just OTT characterization.
My favourite comedy series are Rab C. Nesbitt, Still Game, Father Ted and Operation Good Guys. I really think that CFWM has a chance of being up there with them.
And I'm sure you all needed to know that.
I like it but I wouldn't be gutted if I missed it, in fact if I never saw it again I would forget about it within a few months.
Quote: Chappers @ December 31 2010, 2:18 AM GMTAnd your point is?
They showed Asian stereotypes, Black stereotypes, Gay stereotypes, thicko Essex stereotypes ...
Sounds great.
I really enjoyed the first two episodes, looking forward to more.
I think people are missing the point if they think Lucas is "blacking up for laughs". He's just playing another character, why not a black one?
He's not doing it for the cheap "HAHA LOOK AT HIS SKIN COLOUR!!!" comedy, like I say, just another character.
Lighten up.

I really hope that last line was written tongue in cheek.

Damn it, how many seconds did you beat me to that?
Quote: sootyj @ December 29 2010, 9:42 AM GMTI suppose if the 2 of them want to play every character, then it is inevitable they'll end up playing minority characters. It's not really racist is it?
Interesting point. If they did want to play every character and then didn't play *any* ethnic minorities, that would surely be racist too? Perhaps *more* racist (as measured by the Big Brother Racism Scale, presumably).
I enjoyed this a lot. Like others, the later Little Britains seemed to fail to be as amusing, though partly because it became much-loved by a large section of society who had limited or no understanding of the concept of irony, making it quite a dangerous thing.
Anyway, the lack of (too many!) catchphrases so far and more reliance on stand-alone sketches appeals to me over the 'old' method.
Want this one. (ba boom tsch)

But they don't play *every* character. There are other actors involved; Ted Robbins for one.
Sooty's point is rather ill-informed.
Sorry, I obviously forgot to triple highlight and italicise 'If'.
