as was mum.

AKA Penny

In case you missed it, here's the red button extra in which Miranda talks to her real mum. You can slightly see where some of the posh inspiration must have come from: https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/miranda_hart_sitcom/videos/2084/

Red buttoners! :D

I know, fancy her doing a popular comedy programme that appeals to millions of viewers, both male and female, how on Earth is that going to help promote women in comedy?

(Fat "bird"? Really? And you think she's the one stuck in the past?)

>_< I really don't see your massive prob' with 'bird', it flowed, nothing else would do.
This is a comedy site, so I didn't expect totally 'PC' posts?.

Bird is non-gendered noun; Jo Brand uses it all the time, so good enough for me folks.
To Tony, Rolling eyes She uses 'fattist' material, an easy laugh for millions of viewers, yawn...

And Miranda is a comedy television programme, so why would you expect totally 'PC' plots and humour from it?

Rolling eyes I am posting a critique of someone's material, viewed by millions, if I find it boring and 'fattist', I can say so. This stuff only perpetuates the notion of women as 'fat', ergo; 'funny'. Surely we have to move on? Sooo dated I will trudge out in snow and die, who will care?, as I have no fat to protect me.

Unimpressed OH such a revelation- NOT.

Nice attitude!

I liked the first series well enough but I've declined to keep up with an insular, repetitive sitcom into a pointless and wholly contrived second series (as I assume it must be). I believe I saw it all in the first series. (confirmed by seeing the 1st ep of s.2).

Does it? Or is that your own interpretation? I would suggest that it is. Therefore, by your own logic, it is your mind that has to move on. :)

She's not particularly 'fat' anyway!
Not that it has f**k all to do with her comedic talent either way.

Well, THAT won't endear you to anyone here. Angry

It is true, however, that funny women on British TV do tend to be well-upholstered.

Maybe not her talent but definitely her material, she never stops leaning on it, does she? It's definitely a gender thing, fatness - you never saw Benny Hill, Ronnie Barker or Benard Manning using it in their acts, not intentionally. And yet women such as Miranda Hart, Dawn French, Jo Brand, Victoria Wood and Sarah Millican never seem to stop going on about it in their otherwise slim acts. It's you women who are so obsessed with your size, not men! Morning.

I've said it before I think, but she makes very few jokes about being fat. Most of them are about her being clumsy, mistaken for a man, unfeminine, and tall.
Not very many at all about being fat.

Hmm, don't know, direct jokes maybe but there are an awful lot of indirect fat jokes about her eating cakes and puds, having to go to the gym, and the visual gags that wouldn't work if she was slim, are you not being too dismissive of this huge wad of fat related material? I know I've seen it all and I've not kept up with this 2nd series. It's a big part of her act imo.
