No idea why Frankie Boyle is so popular ??

His only 2 topics of discussion are cheap digs at Scotland, which lose their appeal after a while - being Scottish it's nothing new as to what we already joke about - and 'shock humour', saying something which isn't even that funny but controversial enough to get a laugh.

Yep, he got old real quick.

He was really rather special on Shooting Stars in a relatively short stint.

This.

I saw Johnny Vegas live several times in the mid-Nineties. He did a residency at a cabaret club in Drury Lane (which I think is now gone) and was utterly mesmerising. His routine fell into two parts, firstly a lot of stuff about how he got sacked from being a Bluecoat (with drunken singalongs) and in the second half he would fire up the potters wheel and make stuff for half an hour based on audience suggestions. I was the proud owner of an unglazed Johnny Vegas teapot that fell to bits a couple of weeks later.

Some of his TV career choices have been a bit weird since then, as I suspect neither he nor TV executives know what to do with him on telly - but in his early days he was one of the most extraordinary, compelling acts I've ever seen and there's no mystery at all as to how he got signed up.

I saw him once about ten years ago and he was awesome. Got someone up out of the audience and then wrestled him for about ten minutes, maybe that doesn't sound all that funny, but it really was.
