Torchwood... Page 4
I'm a genuine SF fan - but just can't take Torchwood seriously. Each to their own, I guess.
To me, there IS something of the sitcom about it.

Its no less serious than all those American shows, like Buffy, which I could just never take to. I know that sounds odd as T Davies probably took shows like that as a template for Torchwood, but in this show at least the bad guys can feel genuinly threatening and scary, where as in Buffy they never did. Oh look, its another vampire, that the team will take in no way seriously, and then defeat with some half arsed kung fu. yawn. A show like Buffy is really all about the humour and yet its not accused of being a sitcom; I think if you come to Torchwood looking for deadly serious drama, then youre never going to take to it.
Buffy used to scare me loads!
Am a pussy.

Then youd best keep away from Rentaghost!

Actually, I remember in one Buffy ep there were these weird people type monster things that stole their victims' (it was children's iirc) voices so's they couldn't scream or shout when they came to 'get them'.
I thought that was pretty creepy!
So ok I must be a pussy as well
Ah well, better to be a complete pussy than a complete nob eh zooo

Everyone said that the episode where they lose their voice was scary but I didn't find it scary. Muppets Christmas Carol now thats f**king scary

Witty remarks are likely to go un-noticed on a Torchwood thread, Aaron. Try to stick to talking about the 'outfits' or using words like 'brilliant', 'cool' etc.
Godot, Godot.
Don't you ever do anything just for fun?
Not because it's going to change the world?

Torchwood itself is quite witty, and not just for simple idiots. Im not making any great claims for the show, but I do enjoy it. And some of the outfits are cool.

Haha, quite true.

Zoo, Zoo. I am only about fun.
But I'm 41. And I'm quite bright. And I don't fancy John Barrowman. And Torchwood is just a tease.
It's not a million miles away from that police show with Shoestring in it - twentysomethings running all over the place pulling guns, lit by blue photofloods. It's just not very imaginative.
The first series had its moments. The episode with the glove was excellent. Moving and meaningful and exciting. But there are too many things wrong with the show though for it to work. Why is everyone so young? It is a child's view of the world. Owen as a womaniser - are you kidding me? The relentless polymorphous perversity of the characters (shagging each other) This is just gay fantasy. Some really lame writing. Did you know that Combat (the fight club rip off ep from series 1) was written by Noel Clark - ie Rose's boyfriend Mickey. He can't write. He's not even much of an actor.
