Having not watched this yet, I'm glad this thread hasn't revealed any major plot spoilers, like the death of a major character or something.

Tough, it's been on, don't read the bloody thread if you want to actually watch the thing!!!

That's exactly why I steered clear of this thread for the last couple of days until I watched the final episode last night.

It was a shame to see Ianto go and pretty harsh that jack had to kill his own grandson but I'm glad RTD didn't do anything rubbish like save the kid by having him inherit some of Jack's immortality or whatnot.

I'm also glad that Gwen mentioned the Doctor. Him not being there was a bit of an elephant in the room, what with Torchwood being a spin-off and all.

But overall I loved this new series, it was a really big story and they should definitely do some Doctor Who ones like that.

Perhaps they could have done something similar, stripped across one week, to see out David Tennants tenure.

And Iainto should get loads of work at Christmas as his name rhymes with panto.

I gave up on Torchwood a while ago, after that episode which ended with a giant unstoppable monster thing which they simply defeated in a completely unsatisfactory manner. It had RTD written all over it.

Then you should check this latest mini-series out, because it's so, so much better than the old Torchwood. It's cracking stuff.

And several times deliberately and succesfully mocks the old format.

Though RTD created the show, he actually wrote very little of Torchwood before this mini-series. I think only one or two episodes. And a man called Chris Chibnall was the show runner. I know this will dissapoint some of the RTD haters! The moment RTD exerts complete control over the series, and becomes head writer, it actually gets good! :O

Fair enough, catch-up TV here I come!

Do so. This series is what it always should have been.

Yes, RTD gets a lot of stick for being oversentimental but if he wrote this special run then f**k me, he went the opposite way to expectations!

There were so many points where he could have taken the nice/happy/positive/easy way out but he seemed to make the more shocking/disturbing/sad choice every time.

Hurrah for him. :)

He's probably at his best when he's not writing fifty billion episodes of Doctor Who every year, and trying to find endings that aren't all the bloody same.
