It was. If they could have mixed in a more high stakes and interesting mystery for them to tackle throughout, it would have been much more satisfying.

another slightly scifi episode of Sherlock
Quote: sootyj @ 5th January 2014, 1:09 PM GMTYou had as many problems with this show as cats have with balls of string dipped in catnip.
Disliking something isn't a competition!

Ooh, script editor/writer Andrew Ellard is doing his tweetnotes on this ep on Twitter now, always interesting: @ellardent

I disagree that it was fun, though, I think it was goofy. The difference in tone from last series to this is very jarring (particularly to me as I rewatched it a couple of weeks ago), and it felt like a bad copy of the shitty Guy Ritchie movie mixed in with bits from Die Another Day and V for Vendetta for no real reason. And all the character interactions felt like a pastiche of itself. Compare the taxi-chase scene from Study in Pink to the ludicrous stunt-motorcycle ride from this one. Compare the understated sorrow and despair from Reichanbach Falls to the cartoonish attempted throttling in the restaurant. It was stupid in every respect.
Quote: sootyj @ 5th January 2014, 1:00 PM GMTBut no scifi is not just a show featuring some fantastical use of science to advance the plot.
Yes it is. Sherlock is genre television, like Buffy, Hannibal and The Walking Dead.
Quote: Harridan @ 5th January 2014, 1:02 PM GMTThose people are stoopid.
Yes they are.
Quote: Matthew Stott @ 5th January 2014, 1:00 PM GMTTo be fair, I have seen a lot of praise for this episode. So obviously it did please a lot of people.
And the genre is scifi

Humph. I'm off to wash up. Can someone let me know if a story starts at any point?

I'm not trying to convince myself, I'm trying to convince RCP/
It'd be nice if one of these Sherlock's had some actual drama in one week.
Now that was actually good, a proper mystery, with real drama and clues, the humour was a bit off.
But a huge improvement on last week.
