Sherlock Page 80

Yeppity doodle. I was thinking the other day, what if someone had never seen Sherlock before and The Empty Hearse was their first taste?

As a stand alone episode, it failed completely on so many levels.

It is the third series now though, sometimes it's okay to write for your audience and not the people who've never watched. Plus, with this one, it was directly following up on something from a previous episode.

I completed my tax return during it. That made me feel smug (a whole month early!) but I still don't think I outsmugged Gatiss. I threw my pen at the TV during the Sherlock/Moriarty kiss.

However, I wasn't a huge fan of 'The Hounds of Baskerville' episode, which I believe he wrote too. So maybe I just don't like him as a writer.

I have high hopes for the scary man from Borgen though.

If we were following the American format of 22 episodes a series, then I would agree with you totally. But as this is technically only the 7th episode, it's a bit of cheek to become self reverential so early on, like some 21 year old celebrity pumping out their autobiography or greatest hits.

Where is sooty to amend this post?! All you have to do is add an 'is' to pen and it's an instant classic. This place has really gone to pot since I left.

In some ways perhaps, but this isn't an American show. And the show did debut almost four years ago now, so it's sat in viewers minds for some time now.

He wrote the final ep of the first series, in which Moriarty is introduced, did you like that one? I like a lot of the stuff he's written, including The League Of Gents, of course!

Yes, but when you're kept on such short rations, it's a bit galling when they start handing out wax fruit.
Try watching 'Reichencbach Fall' and this one back to back BTW (which I did, pretty much).
The change in tone is jarring to say the least.

I'm surprised this saw the light of day, given how far up its own backside it was. Clever for the sake of being clever, much like the Christmas Day Doctor Who.

Moffat, my office, now.

Anyway, that's out the way now, let's see what the next two episodes bring. Looking forward to them.

Not a massive fan of the Moffat/Gatiss clique, but did rather enjoy this episode. I've followed a fair few Sherlock fans on Twitter and found the gentle ribbing of fangirling and send-up of homo-erotic fanfic most pleasing. As ever, Martin Freeman's rendition of Watson is the best thing about this adaptation.

Actually it's never okay Matthew unless you are writing soap opera at its poorest level. And it wasn't directly it was two years later and Sherlock lived as we all know. If hand on heart you tell me you actually give a shit about the real story from the only possible 19 or whatever (I mean really?) possible explanations for something so trite I will eat your socks. Who shot JR Who shot Phil off eastenders How did something that never happened happen. Mind boggling.

Totally agree MarcP you're da boss.

Why don't you just kiss him on the mouth and take pictures of that and then share them around so we can all enjoy it. Huh?

Because he's an unattainably paragon of beauty and talent.

Isn't that obvious.

You've been watching too much Moffatt, you've lost the plot more than one of his shows.

No, I don't really care about knowing the actual trick of it. Maybe I would have done directly after the episode where he jumped. What I cared more about was seeing how he and Watson would come back together, and Watson's reaction. Though in this case it rather drowned out anything else.

and you were satisfied with how they handled it

FFS sooty they never handled it. They are not gay, pay attention!
