You can't get rid of the Royals and gentry, otherwise how would we know that we were commoners and peasants?
Especially Sooty!

eh?
Besides the royals work for a living, keep their cereal in tupperware and have their fights in public.
Rather working class.
As long as you're not disrespecting your betters!
eh?
Nothing, just rambling!

The biggest upkeep is the palaces
If the royals go, you aren't going to knock down Winsor Castle are you.
And then we would need a head of state, who would need protection and a residence fitting the status.
Whats the point, the Queen is a hard working old sort you have to give her that. Its worked up till now and I'm sure it will work for hundreds of years into the future.
Finally, someone talking some sense.
the queen is most definitley good value, but andrew, anne etc?
Besiides I hate seeing whats happening to william and harry
Yes, I too think the Queen is OK. But she is the only one of the Royals who has any real credibility for me.
As for it working for hundreds of years more... ?
Only if you embalm the old dear and put her on display in a glass case!

And you'd need a big hammer.

I think the French got it right. Madame Guillotine is a harsh mistress but cheap to run unlike the royals.
I don't think anyone should be respected purely because of the family they were born into. Earn your respect and the Queen has done a good job but also so has the cleaner who sorts out my classroom. But I'll be buggered if I'm going to bow to her!

Is it law to bow to Queen? I always thought it was like religion if you believed in it you did it but if not you just carried on.

I think it's just tradition but I've not seen anybody not do it. I stand to be corrected.
