In one episode, he made a reference to the 'singing Spam of St.Cristobal'. I don't recall much else from the episode, as I was on the floor laughing my cobblers off, in tears with an aching jaw.
This never happened during Gavin & Stacey.

Tragic warm up alter ego Bobby Chariot used to get some better gags than Alexei.
I loved this show proper intellectual, funny comedy and some good satire.
It was fearless in a way shows just aren't these days. Not least of all was the massively long Juliet Bravo false start.
Mind you people did chnage the theme tune at school to fit my name...
Alexei's memoir, 'Stalin Ate My Homework' is due out:
I saw him twice in the 1980s. Best stand-up I ever saw.
He was aces in the Comic Strip.
I used to see him writing his novel in a little Russian cafe, but was too scared to approach him.
Damn would have loved to have seen Bobby Charriot live.

Spot on, Dave! Nice one.
Great series, especially the first ever episode, but for the real rage of Alexei you gotta track down his 'Cak!' album. I got an autographed copy hoorah - I saw him at London's Paris Studio for his radio sitcom 'Roy of the Rovers' just before 'Stuff' made him even bigger.
He also did a great 'Comic Roots' but blowed if I can find my aged vhs copy!
The 'Stuff' sketches are very Python, don't you think?
Oh yeah, isn't Dave Cohen's article superb? I tracked him down to compliment him! By a curious consequence sorry coincidence I submitted a Young Ones article the same week http://www.chortle.co.uk/correspondents/2008/07/14/7057/once_in_every_lifetime,_comes_a_love_like_this...

Seems like something Mitchell and Webb would do...
