Sketch Writing Opp Page 2

Latest:

Now, as you may be tempted to take part once you know what's in it for the winner, you have longer to email your script document to: gemma@247theatrefestival.co.uk
9am on Tuesday 20th July; that's an extension of 24 hours. There is no submission fee.

All entries will be considered and writers of the ten selected scripts informed on Saturday 24th July.

You'll assemble a talented company of performers and deliver your sketch After Hours at 10:30pm the following Saturday 31st July.

An industrious panel will pick an overall winner on the night. The prize is one that money can't buy: a one-to-one mentoring session with Gill Isles, producer at Baby Cow, Manchester. You'll discuss, trends, markets, writing funny stuff. We told you it was a good prize, so get writing!

Just one sketch per person?

It doesn't specify in that little blurb. I just forwarded two, anyway.

Just sent two in. Still not sure if they're expecting you to provide actors or they keep making the same typo. Anyway, life goes on in the meantime.

Getting a troupe together and trooping up to Manchester would be a big commitment(*) but certainly the prize is an interesting one. Were the JunkMales Northern based, I daresay we'd consider it.

(*)Unless you live in that godforsaken part of't wrong side of't Pennines! (Liverpool not included in that fully-justifiable diatribe!;))

For the main part of the festival - the plays - they say:

"24:7 provides venues and technical support for all companies involved; the rest is left to the producers - usually the writers themselves"

If the same applies for the sketches, then it may explain why they haven't had many submissions (well, that's just my guess as to why they've extended the deadline).

It's a great opportunity/prize for any local-to-Manchester sketch-writing performers but we are effectively a London-based group and getting 2, 3 (or all 4 of us..) up to Manchester to perform at the gig and then 1 or 2 of us to hang around/go back for the prize, would be a big commitment.

I think we won some kind of similar prize involving Baby Cow before (?) (dannyjb1 would know..) and we are still poorer than church mice (we would eat church mice if we could find any.. well, I would..)

It may be that we do not have any talent, that may be why we are still poor. Just thought I'd say that before some other arse does!

Anyway, good luck to anybody who can participate in this doings!

Frankie xxx :)

Manchester is to the south of the Pennines. Also Manchester is more "all right, Tracy, luv!" than that t' stuff. Get your stereotypes right.

Saturday 31st July: Comedy Sketch Night. 10 short new comedy sketches in competition before your very eyes! Will you spot the next comedy star? Tickets £3 on the door.

Do you get a cut of the profits, Michael?

Ha ha! No, in fact I'm just as much in the dark as everyone else here! I just like to share opps.
PS I'm a cat-lover.

I've had a sketch accepted for this, but despite the fact that I explained in my email that I had no actors etc. to, well, act it etc. That seems to be what they are expecting. Anyone in the same boat? Anyone know a Manchester based sketch group who might like to do it? Seems a shame to have to pass.

They sound like a right bunch of twerps!

Who are these people?

Well?

I'm waiting... Pirate

Who?
