That Mitchell And Webb Look - Series 4 Page 20

Thought it was marginally better this week but not terribly so.

The sketch (Report Mode?) that looked like the Fast Show's "Big Show" was nothing short of grim in its execution and content.

I think, that in all honesty, I might just recently have become too old and no longer up to speed with what's down with the kids.

G'night everybody.

Rolling eyes

You've got quite a chip on your shoulder about liberals, haven't you? Despite the fact that virtually every show you've ever loved was written by and starred liberals.

No.

Do you need to be a liberal to disapprove of the KKK?

This must be the first time anyone has suggested David Mitchell is down with the kids.

See that proves it! I am officially living on planet Blenkinsop where we think that Max Miller and Flannagan & Allen are cutting edge.

;) ;)

Even the Fast Show's Off-roaders and Bob Flemming seemed to get ripped-off in this episode.

I noticed the Bob one, but wasn't sure if it was just the look rather than the character it was in debt to.

Oh is that what he's talking about - A Prayer and a Pint? A complete rip off apart from the total absence of country crafts, hawking up phlegm or retakes. So basically sideburns and a cardee then.

Does anyone know what, if anything, is responsible for this dramatic change in the tone and quality of this show?

I remember being charmed and amused by previous series, but tonight's was like being locked in a room with someone that's gone mad - like proper nasty disturbing mad, not comedy mad.

Terrible mix-up tonight.

Some old episode of 'The Fast Show' kept popping up on the screen.

Just watching this tonight - good grief! Did they think no-one would notice? The Big Show bit was so blindingly similar, and then Prayer and a Pint man couldn't finish his piece to camera because he had a hacking cough. Timbo, watch it again. It's Bob Fleming.

I did like kill the poor though, and Remain Indoors was better than usual. KKK could have been good if they had axed the first half. It's a bit irritating when they do loads of things that the makers themselves say people making sketch shows shouldn't do.

Even the '...when everyone's a little bit drunk sketch' slightly reminded me of Rowley Birkin QC ("...but I'm afraid I was very, very drunk.") Strange how much 'Fast Show' was in this....and yeah, that Report Mode sketch was just weird - but not fully weird and random enough to be funny like the 'Big Show' sketches on the 'Fast Show'. They were funny because they got the look and feel - the production values - of foreign, non-English language TV spot on, unlike whatever the hell Mitchell and Webb were trying to achieve with their version.

I have to agree that a lot of the sketches fail but there are still a couple each episode that make me laugh (the klu klux klan one and the Auschwitz gift shop sketch were particular highlights from the last episode).

An average episode. Nothing too abysmal, but nothing outstanding either.

I only like them in Peep Show. I don't like this I am afraid to say. Sorry boys but I am a Peep fan!

I thought this was the best one so far. More hits than misses for the first time. Liked the "good enough to f**k" line in Hennimore a lot.

Some very good stuff in there tonight, my fave was the docusoap fishmonger thing, it was hardly anymore ridiculous than several that I've seen. Their acting is also very good.
