Best and worst franchises?

I know some wag will say McDonalds or Argos, but I'm thinking more of TV and film franchises. Which are you favourites? And the ones that leave you cold?

For me, the best is probably Star Trek. A classic original series, a very good follow up series, and a few good films. Including the cracking recent reboot. Sure, they've had some duff moments, but overall it's a pretty impressive body of work.

The worst for me has to be Stargate. The film was so-so, but God knows how it managed to give birth to so many series. Oh, and Harry Potter does nothing for me.

Best: Indiana Jones and Back To The Future. (They're franchises, right?...)
And I do like Harry Potter.

Correct. These are the best.

The trouble with franchises is that there's always a weak point.

True, it usually because the creators become insane or the idea has run it's course and they just in for the money
Examples:

Alien 3 +
Starwars after 1980's
Indianna Jones Kingdom of the Crystal Cock Ring.
Post Burton Batman
Superman 4
All of the Screams

The list goes on.

Burton Batman was the best

Was that Michael Keaton?

It was indeedy. The fight scenes were kinda poor but everything else was ace.

Burton Batman was great. He didn't fight much but why would he? He's not Superman.

Yup an amazing Bruce Wayne as well. Not just Batman. Which Bale isn't

Agreed. ;)

I'd also stick Alien vs Predator and it's sequel in there too.

There is no AvP.

Also every Nightmare On Elm Street after the first one.

Actually most horror sequels are pants.

Haha admit though Alien 3 is where it started going down hill. It was no Aliens.

AvP was bad beyond belief.

Some would say post You only live twice Bond was all down hill.

Lets not kid our selves No'1 wasn't great. It was surreal. But once Freddy started wise cracking. I'm out.

Again Bond has always been a bit shit. For me it's quality only really dipped into unwatchable territory in Quantum of Solace.
