Can anyone answer this question of mine? Is there anyway that someone with a Facebook, Twitter, MySpace or some other account knows that someone else has visted their page, without the someone else being logged in?
Internet question
Why? What has the missus caught you doing?

There is a thing on Facebook that allows the user to see who's viewed their profile I think.

Those things are entirely inaccurate. It harvests your personal info when you give it permission and then makes stuff up.
So to answer you, John M: no.

Aarons right there isn't anything that can do that which is accurate anyway.
So there is definitely no way of someone knowing who has visited their page. It's just that I was reading this thing on the web about some kind of tracker, that tells the person with the account who has viewed their page, where they live and how often they view it. I'm now guessing that isn't true.
There are crude things which might be able to identify that there is one computer - or computers - that regularly visits a page, but no, it wouldn't be able to identify individuals or to that extent. It's a load of rubbish.
In any case, it's only really feasible if the owner of the page has a level of control over the server: certainly not the case if we're talking about profiles and accounts on the likes of Facebook.

Well, how much of the article did you actually read? It seems pretty dismissive throughout:
"so far, Facebook has been successful at preventing people from installing trackers"
Why are you asking? Paranoia. Or do you think there's a business opportunity in it?
Paranoia I supposed. I've wondered about it for a long while and I just wanted it confirming once and for fall. Thankyou for putting my mind at rest Aaron.

Facebook staff have the ability to see who is viewing their profiles.
