A Man Walks into a Bar Page 2

First up, sorry for not getting back to people sooner.

The deadline for this month is a week today: the 1st of July.

There'll be a rehearsal early the following week, which gives the writers a chance to meet-up and work with the actors, which will then be followed by the reading proper on the Thursday.

This is a new event. We've had a couple of dry runs which have gone down really well, and now we're opening it up for other writers to contribute. We hope to keep momentum behind it as a regular fixture, so even if you miss this month's deadline they'll be another opportunity next month.

Ideally, we'd like 30 min submissions. We've found that two pieces of half-an-hour, broken up with beer and chat, is a pretty good balance.

Website in development. Hope this makes sense.

P.S. If anyone's interested in example scripts that have been read at previous events, just email us and we'll send them out.

Thanks for the info - sounds like an intriguing opportunity.

*** THIS THURSDAY - A MAN WALKS INTO A BAR - 7PM FOR 7.30PM START ***

This month's A Man Walks into a Bar takes place on Thursday, the 8th of July, at the Mason's Arms on the corner of Devonshire St and Great Portland St.

Up this month we have Shelf Life, a sitcom set in that Great British institution: the public library. And to coincide nicely with the World Cup (don't worry, we're not clashing with any games), a comedy called Stonewall Penalty, which offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the cut-throat business that is professional football.

So please feel free come along, see what it's about, grab a drink and have a laugh.

So this is tonight. Will I or won't I?

Yes you did.
And your avatar pic doesn't do you justice.

Well sn enjoyable evening - with about a dozen BCGers past and present - including the lovely Angie Baby!

did I miss something?

Not if you're still "oop north!"

How did this go then?

Dan

For those that did, thanks for coming. We know that the writers involved found it really useful and we hope you enjoyed it too. The next one's pencilled in for early September, so if you're thinking of putting a piece forward drop us a line at amanwalksintoabarlondon@gmail.com.

Is there a specific deadline? Or just ASAP?

If you aim to get submissions to us by the 20th of August, that will give us plenty of time to go through what we've got, arrange castings and book in rehearsals. Then we'll aim for a reading sometime in the first couple of weeks in September. Makes sense?

Sounds great! Cheers Griff.

Now to write something 30-minute-y...

Dan

I'd have said there were more like 40 people there plus actors.

I still didn't get my drink!

Only if you've ever wanted to hear Chappers 'come'.

Have I spelt that right?
