Most disappointing/unresolved endings to sitcom... Page 2

Frasier ended badly, but that's because the last five years were terrible.

I thought the last episode of 'Frasier' was terrific, it was emotional and more importantly funny, which it hadn't been for a number of years.

The ending of 'The Office' was very good and who can forget "Blackadder Goes Forth"? Extremely poignant yet very funny, the definitive sitcom ending in my eyes. "I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?", fantastic stuff.

I thought the ending to 'Friends' was rather shambolic, and the Seinfeld ending is just terrible, but they "made up" for that with the Curb reunion. :D

Coupling was quite odd though I think circumstances played their part. As I understood it there was going to be a fifth series but the cast were forging successful careers by then so it was difficult to get them together at the same time so the ended up scrapping it.

In context it made sense as it was no longer coupling as a baby had been born but that final scene was just...odd. I remember turning to my wife at the time ang going "Huh? They can't end it like that?"

But they did.

I quite liked the last Seinfeld. Not sure why so many people have a problem with it.

Game On finished a bit abruptley. Think there was going to be a series 4 but it got cancelled.

I gather she died with the Series 6 scripts unopened next to her hospital bed.

:(

Indeed. :(

'Allo 'Allo! had a good ending but Are You Being Served? didn't seem to work as an ending more than just a normal episode. Although I suppose they got their ending in Grave & Favour. It's almost as if the AYBS? final should have been the late episode Monkey Business lol.

Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em's ending was ok. :|

The recent retrospective documentary shows the ending how it was written and shot, including the raw footage. They all die.

Just in case you were wondering if this falls under "unresolved".

The court scene makes it uncharacteristically static, I think.

Meh. Sitcoms are static by definition.
And what could more exciting than a courtroom? That's right, nothing.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it was the writers who decided not to carry on, though, rather than the channel.

Yes, but the pace of Seinfeld was usually so fast. Every line seemed to move it forward. The court scene was indulgent and slowed the pace. So there!

You've got an answer for everything!

Up there for thinking, down there for tripping over the pavement.

Tell you what I hate, where writers leave a lot of open ends not knowing if they'll get another series or not. If you have any ongoing plots and aren't 100% certain of another series, tie everything up! That BBC 2 sitcom about the woman who runs away from her husband back to her hometown did that last year. Gits.
