'This inspiring project will provide young emerging writers and directors with a unique opportunity to create a short film with one twist: you must explore your world, as you know it, using only one word of dialogue.'
My One Word - short screenplay competition Page 2
In three other places including the rules they say the "screenplay must only have one word", when it should say, "your screenplay must only have one word of dialogue." Good prize though.
I've got a few ideas that could fit with this brief. May even submit some if I can fnd the time to write them.
Anyone else having a pop?
I will probably have a stab at this if I can come up with an idea. seems to be a few things around at the minute, Coming Up, Newsjack etc. so might be pressed for time.
... the end of the first paragraph does say one word of dialogue.
Indeed - a single word of dialogue, but can one use captions and/or numbers?
Very puzzling ...
Funniest bit I read is the "timetable of development stages" of the contest.
Your "one word" screenplay will have to undergo at least two drafts; once at a workshop and once in a 1-2-1 session with an industry bod.
Um. So therefore.... after a lot of poking around by other people during the script's "development," that "one word" might become a completely different "one word" by the time it gets made.
'yeah, the thing is, we love this script, it's just I'm not getting a sense of distinctive character voices within the dialogue...'
Surely, if it's only one word then, at most, it's a monologue?

Not at all.
How about a film where an unlucky bloke walks under a ladder and gets splattered with falling paint, (or a window cleaner's bucket... or both) then he gets knocked over by some old granny riding one of those diabled-mobile thingies, then he gets up, walks along and falls down an uncovered manhole?
The one word could be "bugger" upon each unfortunate event.
Anyone sent anything off for this or going to?

Doubt it.
I am sending something in. have it all storylined, just need to bother my arse to actually get it written. I will probably leave it until Sunday morning.
I e-mailed for clarification yesterday over whether it's one word multiple times, one word one time or whether it's up to us, but no response has been forthcoming. I've got my idea, but I'm not sure I want to spend time writing it unless I can be sure it meets the conditions of the competition.
